In Law & Order: Criminal Intent, you’ll take on the role
of Detective Robert Goren to solve three murders. After completing all
three cases, you will need to solve a fourth and final case in order to
uncover the truth.
If you are having difficulty in solving the cases, be sure to choose the
Novice option from the Options screen. You can change your Difficulty
Level setting at any time.
After Captain Deakins presents you with three cases, three folders will
appear representing the three murder cases you must solve. You can
choose to solve them in any order. For the purposes of these
instructions, the top-most folder is Case 1, the left-most folder is
Case 2 and the bottom folder is Case 3.
Choose the top-most folder’s Select button to begin the first case.
• View the victim’s body. Analyze and collect the
neck wounds.
• Interview John Lassiter, the fisherman about the
location and when he discovered the body.
• Open your PDA to access your map.
• Interview Dr. Laura Douglas. If you’ve finished
talking with the fisherman, you’ll be able to ask about the murder
site. You’ll automatically collect the autopsy after speaking with
the Medical Examiner.
• Look inside the dumpster and collect the wire
cutters.
• Look at the hole in the wire fence (near the
corner). Open your PDA and select your inventory. Locate the wire
cutters and choose the Use option, then select the hole in the fence.
Enter the new area and collect the keys and the kneeling prints.
• Exit the area and navigate to the dirt path.
Collect the footprints, drag marks, cigarette butts and glove.
Analyze the footprints.
• Return to the cement walkway, then locate and
collect the car. Look inside the ashtray until the pieces can be
seen in close-up. Assemble the pieces to form a Julietta cigar band.
Note that the pieces need to overlap. Goren identifies the cigar
band when it is complete.
• After exiting the car, open your PDA, select the
cigar band and choose the Analyze option.
• Select the Criminal Profiler laptop. Submit the
following items from your inventory to the Criminal Profiler: Drag
marks, throat wounds, footprints, cigarette butts, glove, wire
cutters, car, autopsy and knee prints.
• Navigate to the Records and Research Unit. Talk
with Jennifer Lee and view the report about the Julietta cigar band.
• Enter the humidor and locate the Julietta cigar
box.
• The Julietta cigar box is located on the lowest
shelf with open boxes, just to the right of the ladder.
• After viewing the close-up of the cigar box, the
interview with Charlie Timmerman will begin. After he mentions Carla,
exit the humidor and navigate to the bar.
• Talk with Carla Meyers. After completing the
interview, she will present you with a receipt. Collect and analyze
the receipt.
• View the report about the receipt at the Records
and Research Unit.
• Interview Melinda Brooks. Find out the victim’s
name (Martin Castillo) and where he worked (Prosecutors’ Office).
• Be sure to "Analyze" Melinda.
• Talk with Howard Schaffer, the victim’s boss.
Learn more about the case against Emilio Sanchez, including the key
witness, Chuy Morales.
• Interview Dennis Campbell, co-worker of the
victim. Be sure to find out about the victim’s home address.
• Interrogate Emilio Sanchez. Find out what he
thought about the victim and make sure he mentions his aunt.
• Knock on the door and speak with Rosa Sanchez. She
will want something before she is willing to talk.
• Navigate to Captain Deakins’ office. Ask the
captain about witness protection for Chuy Morales. You will need to
return later.
• Talk with the victim’s neighbor, Richard Maloney.
• Note that the victim’s front door is locked. Use
the keys you found at the Con Edison Station to open the door.
• Once inside, collect the screwdriver on the glass
table near the front door.
• In the kitchen, select the differently colored
tile. Use the screwdriver from your inventory to pry it open.
• Open the locked safe by turning the colored cubes
so that they all appear green. Note that the small colored indicate
the color the cube will turn when the button is selected.
• Once open, collect the lease for the Brooklyn
apartment.
• In the living room, view the photo of the
telephone.
• Return to Captain Deakins’ office and ask about
witness protection for Chuy Morales. Collect the paperwork he places
on his desk.
• Offer Rosa the witness protection papers to
continue her interview. Find out what she knows about the victim.
• The front door has a key pad lock.
• Hint: Recall what was written on the photo of the
phone found in the victim’s living room.
• Once inside, view the items on the wall in the
living room.
• In the bedroom, use the screwdriver from your
inventory to collect the drawer handle.
• Select the painting in the bedroom. Use the drawer
handle from your inventory on it by clicking one end of the handle
on one hole, the rotating the handle and clicking on another hole
with the other end of the handle. Note that there is only one pair
of holes that will work properly.
• After opening the compartment in the painting,
view and collect the contents.
• Navigate to the Surveillance Unit. Talk with
Walter Harris and view the report about Melinda Brooks. (If the
Melinda Brooks report is not ready, be sure that you have finished
the interview with Rosa Sanchez.)
• Enter the hotel room and talk with Melinda. When
she refuses to cooperate show her something that ties her to this
case (the Ellen Doherty homicide file). Find out where Frank Doherty
works and lives.
• Enter the third archway and walk up the stairs.
Collect the flammable canister by the heater.
• Exit to the street and enter the last archway.
Walk up the stairs and speak with Tony Piovani. When he refuses to
talk, threaten him with a safety violation (the flammable container
that was by the heater). Be sure to learn when Frank Doherty called
in sick.
• Collect Frank’s timecard.
• Enter the apartment and interview Frank. When he
doesn’t want to continue talking, show him his timecard from work.
Learn that he recently visited his wife’s grave.
• Analyze Frank.
• Navigate to the Records and Research Unit and view
the background report on Frank Doherty.
• Enter the apartment and interview Frank. Ask him
about his trips to the city.
• Before leaving, view and collect the cemetery map
on the small table with the plant.
• Walk up the stairs and enter the door. Locate the
room with coffins and talk with the salesman, Ian Lancaster. (If the
Cemetery Note topic is not available, you did not collect the
cemetery map at Frank Doherty’s apartment.) Be sure that he
indicates where the Masonic graves are on the cemetery map.
• Walk upstairs. View the pamphlet on the table. The
Sandcastle monument should be noted on your cemetery map.
• Talk with the secretary, Caroline Higgins. She
will point out the gate on the cemetery map.
• View the business card on the secretary’s desk,
showing the phone number of Frederick Grant. Use the phone on your
PDA to call Frederick. Be sure that he points out a grave on the
cemetery map.
• Go outside and follow the brick path until a small
gate is visible. Enter the gate to proceed to the cemetery.
• Proceed through the pillar with the large statues
on them. Turn right and follow the path. Follow the path as it makes
a left turn (toward the top of the screen). In the new view,
immediately turn right down the path on the side of the Sandcastle
monument. In the new view, select the grave with flowers near the
bottom of the screen. Collect the flowers and view the gravestone.
• Upon exiting the close-up view of the grave,
George Bennett, the groundskeeper, will begin to talk with you. Make
sure you hear what was unusual about Frank’s last visit to the
grave.
• View the Criminal Profiler on the laptop. Submit
Frank Doherty as a suspect.
• Navigate to Captain Deakins’ office. Ask for a
search warrant for Frank Doherty’s residence. The search warrant
should be granted.
• In the living room, view and analyze the cigarette
pack and the letter.
• In the kitchen, view and analyze the textbook on
the table.
• In the bedroom, view and analyze the textbook on
the nightstand and the shoes.
• In the bathroom, view and analyze the cleaning
products.
• In the bedroom, view the box by the television. To
open it, you will need to move the sliders to spell the name of
someone important to Frank. Once opened, view and analyze the letter
opener.
• Talk with Time Bradshaw and view the report on the
letter opener. You may also want to view the reports on the other
items as well.
• View the Criminal Profiler on the laptop. Submit
Frank Doherty as a suspect.
• Talk with Frank and you will automatically take
him to the interrogation room. Be sure to grill him about having an
accomplice. A newspaper front page will signal the end of the case.
Choose the left-most folder’s Select button to begin the
second case.
• At the crime scene, view and collect the
pillowcase on the victim’s face. View and collect the victim’s head
wound and the wrist wound. Also collect and analyze the glass shard
on the bed.
• On the side table, collect the keys and the broken
glasses.
• On the floor, collect the champagne bottle, carpet
stain and the wallet.
• View the torn paper on the floor. Assemble the
pieces to form the room service receipt. Note that at Standard and
Expert levels of difficulty, you will need to rotate pieces by
right-clicking them.
• Exit the hotel room. Collect the room’s door
handle.
• Proceed down the hallway. Near the top of the
stairs, view the trash can. View and analyze the bouquet of white
roses.
• Navigate to the front desk. Interview Stephen
Finch, the front desk clerk. Ask him about the receipt and the
victim.
• Collect and analyze the hotel brochure from the
front desk.
• Navigate to the bar and interview the waiter, Alex
Chang.
• Talk with Laura Douglas, the Medical Examiner,
about all available topics. You will automatically collect the
autopsy report.
• View the Criminal Profiler on the laptop. Submit
the following items from your inventory: champagne bottle, autopsy,
door handle, wrist wounds, glass shard, wallet, pillowcase and
carpet stain.
• Navigate to the Records and Research Unit. Talk
with Jennifer Lee and view the report on the hotel brochure. You may
want to view the reports on the other items as well.
• In the lobby, interview Xavier Mendoza, the
concierge. When he becomes uncooperative, threaten him with the
research report on the hotel brochure. Be sure to find out who he
saw carrying flowers.
• The front door of the victim’s apartment is
locked. Use the keys you found in the hotel room to open the door.
• In the living room, view the books on the shelf
near the television.
• Collect the pencil near the telephone.
• View the yellow pad of paper on the counter by the
kitchen. To read what was written on it, use the pencil from your
inventory on the pad. Collect the unfinished letter.
• Navigate upstairs. On the table, view Renee
Vaughn-Deardon’s business card. Use your phone on your PDA to call
Renee.
• View the computer and note that a password is
needed. The password should spell a word with the first letters of
the body parts. (Hint: It is the subject of some of the books seen
from downstairs.)
• Once the correct password is entered, a contact
list is visible. Analyze the contact list.
• Collect the small key in the small bowl on the
shelf (not far from the computer).
• Navigate to the nightstand by the bed (near the
top of the stairs). The drawer is locked. To open the drawer, use
the small key from your inventory.
• View the wooden box inside the drawer. The tiles
need to be re-arranged to form the same painting on the wall at the
top of the stairs. The framed painting at the top of the stairs can
be viewed in close-up. (In Novice mode, the border tiles can be
easily identified by a light border.) Be sure to use the "outlet"
space on each side for added maneuverability.
• Once the box is open, view and collect the
letters.
• Exit the apartment and talk with the victim’s
neighbor, Helen Reynolds. Be sure to ask her about the last time she
saw the victim.
• Talk with Tim Bradshaw and view the report on the
roses. You may want to view the reports on the other items as well.
• Interview Spencer Hastings. You will not be able
to continue after he refuses to talk more.
• Analyze Spencer.
• After receiving the phone call about Lisa’s
parents, you can visit them at the Medical Examiner’s Office.
• Introduce yourself to Gerald Stokes.
• Interview Suzanne Stokes. Be sure to talk about
the unfinished letter found at the victim’s apartment.
• Talk with Gerald Stokes. Find out about where
Jerry Fulton works.
• Analyze both Suzanne and Gerald Stokes.
• Speak with the secretary.
• Enter Jerry Fulton’s office and interview Jerry.
Talk with him about the last time he saw the victim and what he
knows about the letters.
• Go to the Records and Research Unit. View the
background check on Spencer Hastings.
• Navigate to the Surveillance Unit. Talk with
Walter Harris and view the surveillance report on Spencer Hastings.
• Interview Spencer Hastings. Select the research
report on Spencer from the Reports section of your inventory. Then,
select the surveillance report on Spencer. After offering those two
items, Spencer will continue the interview. Be sure to ask about the
victim’s private life.
• Speak with the secretary.
• Enter Jerry Fulton’s office and talk with Jerry.
Find out about his alibi and who he thinks the victim was seeing.
• Navigate to the Records and Research Unit. View
the report on the contact list. You will need to type in a letter in
each box. (Hint: Look at your keyboard.)
• Talk with Tom Kirkwood. Learn about his alibi and
his marital problems.
• Collect the photo of Tom and his wife.
• Interview Jenna Kirkwood. Be sure to ask her about
the letters.
• Collect and analyze the to-do list on her desk.
• Talk with Xavier Mendoza, the concierge. Show him
the photo of Tom and Jenna.
• View the report on the to-do list.
• Talk with Jenna. When she refuses to cooperate,
show her the crime lab analysis on her to-do list. You will
automatically take her to the interrogation room. Be sure to find
out about what she remembers about the last visit with the victim.
• Go to the Records and Research Unit. View the
background check on Suzanne Stokes.
• View the Criminal Profiler on the laptop. Submit
Suzanne Stokes as a suspect.
• Navigate to Captain Deakins’ office. Ask for a
search warrant for Suzanne Stokes.
• Navigate to the kitchen and view the fish symbol
on the refrigerator.
• Go back to the living room and talk with Gerald
Stokes. Find out about who used the car recently.
• Locate the rotary phone and view the note next to
it.
• Use your phone on the PDA to call Marjorie. Ask
her about Suzanne’s visit.
• Navigate upstairs to the bedroom. View the angel
box on the desk. Press the button and click the first string that
highlights. Continue to click the highlighted strings in the correct
order to complete the seven note sequence.
• Upon completion, collect and analyze the letters
found.
• Go to the Records and Research Unit. View the
research report on the victim’s letters.
• Go to the Criminal Profiler on the laptop and
submit Suzanne Stokes as a suspect.
• Navigate to the kitchen and interview Suzanne
Stokes. Be sure to grill her about her visit to her sister, the
victim’s letters and the injuries. A newspaper front page will
signal the end of the case.
Choose the bottom-most folder’s Select button to begin
the second case.
• At the crime scene, view and collect the victim’s
head wounds and the bruises on his forearms.
• Select the broken bat pieces to view them
close-up. Drag the pieces to assemble the bat. Goren will identify
it as the murder weapon once you correctly assemble it.
• Open your PDA inventory and analyze the baseball
bat.
• View and collect the wallet on the coffee table in
the living room.
• Enter the door at the bottom of the staircase.
View and collect the dog.
• Exit the front door, walk down the stairs, then
view and analyze the vomit.
• Interview Rachel Warren, the victim’s daughter.
Make sure to find out about where the victim worked, his ex-wife and
the affair.
• Talk with Laura Douglas, the Medical Examiner,
about all available topics. You will automatically collect the
autopsy report.
• Ask the receptionist Kathy Dillard where to locate
Andrea Warren. Afterwards, interview Andrea Warren and make sure to
find out about her alibi and the affair. (You will need to return to
finish the interview.)
• Talk with Samir Kumar (at the desk near the door)
and ask about Sheila Rogers.
• Navigate to Sheila Rogers’ office. Interview
Sheila and make sure you ask about her firing. (You will need to
return to finish the interview.)
• Talk with Andrea Warren about the argument at the
bank.
• Navigate to Gayle Pearson’s office. Interview her
and find out about what you can about the affair and the
consequences.
• Interview Bill Yamada, the victim’s co-worker. Be
sure to find out about possible suspects, the argument with Andrea
Warren and the Sheila Rogers investigation.
• Before leaving Bill’s office, collect and analyze
the folder containing the loan application reviewed by Sheila
Rogers.
• Talk with Sheila Rogers again and ask her why she
was fired.
• Interview Gordon Dixon. Find why he was fired, his
alibi and if he owns a baseball bat.
• Before leaving, view and collect the photo of
Gordon.
• Go to the Records and Research Unit. Talk with
Jennifer Lee and view the reports on the baseball bat and loan
application.
• Talk with Tim Bradshaw and view the lab tests on
the baseball bat indicating that a small glove fragment was found.
View the lab test on the vomit.
• View the Criminal Profiler on the laptop. Submit
the following items from your inventory: baseball bat, autopsy,
forearm bruises, lab test on the baseball bat, dog, lab test on the
vomit, wallet and head wounds.
• Interview Gayle Pearson again and confirm that
Gordon was fired.
• Interview James Bellotti and show him the photo of
Gordon Dixon.
• Interview Sheila Rogers again. Use the research
report on the loan application to get her to talk. You will
automatically take her to the interrogation room. Find more about
her firing and the customer in question.
• Interview Travis Chase. Find out about the
incident at the bank.
• Analyze Travis Chase.
• Go to the Records and Research Unit. View the
background check on Travis Chase.
• Interview Travis Chase again. Learn what you can
about his son.
• Go to the Records and Research Unit. View the
background check on Travis Chase.
• Navigate to the Surveillance Unit. Talk with
Walter Harris and view the surveillance report on Travis Chase
• To the right of the couch, view and collect photo
of Travis and his son.
• Collect the three receipts in the living room.
View the lamp shade close up, and place each of the three receipts
on the lamp shade so that the address becomes visible.
• Interview James Bellotti again and show him the
photo of Travis.
• Interview the waitress, Stephanie Novitsky. Show
her the photo of Travis and find out what she remembers about him.
• View the window Chase would look out of.
• View and collect the small folded paper on the
table.
• Interview Stephanie again and ask her about the
folded paper.
• Navigate down the street until you reach the
corner newspaper stand.
• Interview Jack Morgan. Show him folded paper and
find out what he remembers about Travis Chase.
• Continue down the street until you reach the
hotel.
• Interview Barbara Rodriguez, front desk clerk. See
what she remembers about Chase and what room he stayed in.
• View the astrological poster and note the symbol
that corresponds to Roman numeral 5.
• View the room keys and collect Gemini symbol,
which corresponds to number 5.
• Navigate up the stairs and locate room number 5.
• Use the key to open the door.
• View and collect photo by the kitchen counter.
• View the window, and use the collected photo to
match its exact location.
• Navigate to Capt. Deakins’ office. Ask for a
search warrant for Travis Chase’s residence.
• Navigate to the bedroom and view the birthday
card.
• View the frame with photos above the desk. You
need to select the photos in a particular order. (Hint: Start with
the birthday photo.)
• Once the drawer opens, view and analyze gloves
found in the drawer.
• Talk with Tim Bradshaw and the lab analysis on the
glove.
• Go to the Criminal Profiler on the laptop and
submit Travis Chase as a suspect.
• Talk with Travis and you will automatically take
him to the interrogation room. Get him to talk more about the dog,
the hotel, the daughter and his plan. A newspaper front page will
signal the end of the case.
• After solving the first three cases, the fourth
case will automatically begin.
• At the crime scene, view and collect the victim’s
head wounds, tattoo on his forearm and ankle bruises.
• View and collect the pills on the side of the
bathtub.
• View and collect the textbook page on the floor
near the bed.
• View and collect the flashlight on the nightstand.
• View and collect the door handle.
• Exit the room and go downstairs.
• Analyze the surveillance camera on the column near
the front desk.
• Talk with Barbara Rodriguez at the front desk.
• After Captain Deakins presents you with the
crossword puzzle, click on it on the desk to view it close-up.
• Complete the crossword puzzle. (If you are having
trouble, be sure to set the difficulty level to Novice on the
options screen.)
• Exit the crossword puzzle close-up.
• Use your phone to call Hall Rudolph. Find out who
created the puzzle and if Hal has ever met this person.
• Talk with Laura Douglas, the Medical Examiner,
about all available topics. You will automatically collect the
autopsy report.
• View the Criminal Profiler on the laptop. Submit
the following items from your inventory: ankle bruises, autopsy,
head wound, pills, tattoo, door handle and textbook page.
• Navigate to the counter and talk with Marvin
Deane. Learn what you can about P.O. Box 709.
• View the Shea Stadium poster on the wall.
• Navigate to the wall with the P.O. boxes. Select
709.
• To open it, you will need to turn the dials to the
appropriate combination. (Hint: Look at the Shea Stadium poster
again.)
• Once open, view and collect the mail inside.
• Collect and analyze the surveillance camera on the
ceiling.
• Navigate to the desk of Ed Clemmons, the bank
manager. Talk with him about the Diane Goren account.
• View and analyze the photocopy of the Diane Goren
ID.
• Talk with Tim Bradshaw and view the report on the
Diane Goren ID.
• Navigate to the bar and view the photo of the boy
on the cash register.
• Interview Maureen Palmieri. When she refuses to
talk, show her the Diane Goren ID. Talk with her about her boy and
have her describe who told her to open the account.
• Navigate to the pool tables and collect the pool
cue.
• Navigate upstairs and enter room 5.
• Attempt to look under the bed. Use the pool cue to
retrieve the item out of reach. Analyze the medication bottle.
• Navigate to the Records and Research Unit. Talk
with Jennifer Lee and view the report on the medication bottle.
• Navigate to the counter and talk with the
receptionist.
• Collect and analyze the medical claim form on the
counter.
• Navigate back toward the front door in the waiting
area. Interview Dr. Hannah Pritchard. She will refuse to talk about
Travis Chase.
• Go to the Records and Research Unit. View the
report on the medical claim form.
• Talk with Dr. Prichard again. Show her the
research report on the medical claim form. Find out the name of
Travis Chase’s psychiatrist.
• Speak with the secretary, then enter Dr. Brown’s
office.
• Interview Dr. Rupert Brown.
• Analyze Dr. Brown.
• View the Mayan artifacts.
• Speak with Dr. Brown again. Find out about
Thorazine and Travis Chase’s first visit.
• Navigate to the Records and Research Unit. View
the background check on Dr. Brown.
• Go to the Surveillance Unit to speak with Walter
Harris. View the surveillance report on Dr. Brown.
• Talk with Dr. Brown.
• Navigate to the desk and view the note on the
folder.
• Speak with Dr. Brown again and find out about the
person who covered for him.
• Navigate to the printer and view and analyze the
list of patients.
• Navigate to the Records and Research Unit. View
the report on the list of patients.
• Listen to the phone call informing you that
Suzanne Stokes is in the Interrogation Room at Riker’s Island
Prison.
• Interrogate Suzanne Stokes. See if she can
identify the photo.
• Listen to the phone call informing you that Frank
Doherty is in the Interrogation Room at Riker’s Island Prison.
• Navigate to the Records and Research Unit. View
the report on the hotel surveillance. You will need to correctly
align the three layers in the six frames. (Hint: Align layers B and
C first, then align layer A.)
• View the report on the photo of the boy.
• Interrogate Frank Doherty. Find out if he received
help in murdering Martin Castillo.
• You will receive a call that Maureen Palmieri was
seen picking up the mail from P.O. Box 709.
• Talk with Maureen Palmieri. You will automatically
take her down to the interrogation room. After she refuses to talk
further, show her the research report on the photo of the boy.
• Navigate to the light switch and turn it on.
• Go to the end of the platform and walk down the
steps. To reach the end destination, do the following (from Goren’s
perspective):

• Walk up the stairs and enter the door.
• Talk with Emily. She will refuse to talk further.
• Look in the lobby, under the table with the coffee
machine.
• Analyze the flashlight battery.
• Talk with Tim Bradshaw and view the analysis on
the battery.
• Submit Emily as a suspect in the Criminal Profiler.
• Navigate through the tunnels to Emily’s hideout.
Talk with Emily again and show her the lab report on the battery. A
final newspaper front page will signal the successful conclusion of
the game.
